Tam I Am

I just like to post pictures of us together, cause they don't happen so often. Of course there are all the wedding pics but we haven't even seen all those yet. Thats what happens when you high tail it to an island right after the wedding. At least we got to see the snow for a bit before we left. I even got to try out snowboarding for a day. I have to say I suck but its not unexpected on a 1st time. I was lucky I had Steve patiently teaching me even when I was frustrated and Hannah hanging with me when we were so so freezing. It was in the negatives there or maybe just really close either way I was so cold. And after the wedding we went to Park City and just rested from our vacation. It was so pretty up there. I love the beautiful snowy lodges and when the snow falls its magical. Park City really is great. I can see why the stars make their way there. I even saw Paris Hilton there. Crazy! Anyway I guess I'm just rambling and trying to say I miss the Snow and the autumn. I miss seeing the beautiful leaves change color. My friends in Salt Lake and me started driving up past Park City and taking pictures of all the beautiful countryside up there. They have all these little swiss looking villas. Its like you're in the alps. Love it. I can't wait for (Hopefully) Michigan and the Snow. I don't care if I turn into a popsicle. I want snow and snow music. (I know thats not a genre but I have my own definition of it) I started driving in the avenues above Salt Lake when it snowed so I could see all the beautiful houses in the snow and I would listen to Frou Frou, Imogen Heap, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and some chirstmas music. It was magical and I always felt like nothing bad could happen when it was like that. I LOVE SNOW!

Wind Up Toy Race

So every time I see a wind up toy I remember the episode of Friends when they race the wind up toys to see who has to stay with Emma. I love it when the dog just barks and flips and makes Chandler and Monica lose. So so funny. So I've wanted to try this out for so long and finally I was in the vicinity of enough wind up toys to make it happen. Ok, so what. I was at a 2 year old's birthday party. kinda silly huh? but I even got the kids to get excited about it for a bit and we raced. I can't even remember who won, but it sure wasn't the frog who just leans over and then flips. The chickens were unpredictable cause they just hop all over and not necessarily forward. The caterpillar was the best. Not super fast but coulda walked a straight line drunk. Now its fun to find new wind up toys. My friend Geno and I found a crab who puts his claws pinchers down and slowly scoots sideways. Pretty awesome. I love simple pleasures they always make more fun than elaborate plans. Now I can cross wind up toys off my list of things to do before I die!

Jazzy Fireworks

This is the 4th of July not in the US. Totally not as good, but life goes on. I decided to make burgers and potatoes and pie and then we walked around Port Lucaya. When we got there they were shooting off fireworks and they were pretty sad puny fireworks. We were not impressed. and then we went in to the band stand and it was crowded and they were playing crazy annoying Caribbean groove music. We walked and finally ended up in front of a hotel that looks in to the port full of boats. And lucky us we found a really good classy jazz group playing. They were so good and after they played they set off an actual fireworks show. very pretty and no bad for out of the country.

The Timid Asparagus

So yet another sunday goes by and this time we found this awesome abandoned house. That seems to happen a lot here. since the hurricanes, a lot of houses were left unfinished and there are a lot of damaged roofs. I also noticed that near our house there are tons of coul de sacs that have nothing in them just a dusty overgrown nothing around those circles. This is such a pretty building here.

We found a giant asparagus. I really haven't the slightest what this thing is but it is a really weird lookin' plant to be that big.
I realized that when I posted pictures of our apartment that I forgot to show the outside of our building. Its kinda funny cause the whole place sucked us in. We thought it was going to be so great and nice. We got here and it was really run down and under construction. They are repairing all the balconies. This week they got to our row. So I hate talking to workers. They always always try to hit on you and stare a lot. so today they came to our balcony and the windows were open. They stayed there for a really long time. And one of the windows doesn't have a screen and they were on both balconies and so I was stuck at our counter hiding behind the wall cause I was still in my pj's and I didn't want them to stare or chat. It was awkward and I guess I could have left but the windows were open I started to get paranoid about sttealing even though its unlikely. All in all it was such an awkward morning and stuffy and uncomfortable. Next time I'm invisa-girl.

The Mashed Hash Flipper

How many flips would a mashed up hash cake endure. This our scientific gift to the world the answer is 5. Of course this isn't an experiment you'll want to try without overalls a toothpick between your teeth and 4 rusting cars in the front yard. We improvised only because we are highly advanced earthlings. So this is our millionth try at making hashbrowns. I never thought it would be so hard. In dominica it always turned into a kind of mush that still tasted pretty good, but here we changed the technique a bit and it turned into what looked like a giant fried oatmeal patty. I couldn't even get myself to try it and wierdly enough it was super sticky inside which kinda made a notch or 2 more disgusting. So instead while I prepared some tuna and tomato soup Steve practiced his pancake flipping skills. He is actually pretty good. I was sure he'd drop it but not once did this juggler of floppy things miss. Anyway it was just a random, fun dinner.

My-size Playland

So this was a fun day at KFC. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of their food, but their playland was big enough for us tall non-children type people. It was out in 8 mile which is the oldest settlement on the island. (I wouldn't put much emphasis on the word oldest it really looks like its falling apart and looks like the part of town nice people want to avoid). I'm pretty sure they don't get so many white folks out there. these little kids kept calling us cheesy and told us its cause we're white. I kept trying to reason with him that I'd call him by his name and I told him mine, but it just seemed to add fuel. I asked what they called people who weren't white like him and he's like "black" I'm a black Bahamian. I hate it when people come up with silly ways of adding barriers between people. It just doesn't breed good feelings for the future. Anywho we had fun and one big bonus was free AC cause its getting so hot here.

Cute little Elena was smearing her face and I'm sure saliva on the window of her plane. I hope she doesn't crash.

Wait for mama Elena. She just was having way too much fun!

I'm pretty sure Cuyler is the is the star kicker of the group but don't let him know cause he needs little to no encouragement, if ya catch my drift.
To add to the 8 mile experience we left to all these teens excitedly waving and saying goodbye. I think white peops are a commodity there. And then I noticed the doors. NO HOODS. I'm not sure what they're trying to say but for real are hoods that big a deal. Interesting thought for a day.
