Good Ol' Island Creativity

This is a sign we found at Port Lucaya for one of the souvenir shops. Silly eh!
It always entertains us find things that didn't quite pan out. Of course things like that happen all the time in the US but for some reason its so much funnier to find it here. My favorite is when they didn't quite get the grammar right. That was more a problem in Dominica. Of course most of the locals were so hard to understand between the mumbling and the accent that you wouldn't know if they were speaking english, but the signs are really what said it all. The vehicles there all seem to feature some sort of random saying on the window. I think more than half made no sense. But Steve and my favorite was the bus that said "To Much to Mention". I wonder why they mentioned that at all. It was a definite waste of their money, but I'll leave them to their entertainment cause its better than drugs. Of course the same is true of so many things that it makes that argument quite weak. Any way here's a beautiful sunset. we can never quite get the colors to show as vivid as they are but it is so beautiful I can't help but show it off.

Our First Hurricane Warning

The above is the picture on the web of Hurricane Bill. Pretty impressive for our first hurricane. I hope it isn't as destructive as it is impressive.

So we found out that Hurricane Bill is headed up towards Bermuda and we are just prayin at this point that it doesn't interfere with our plans to go home on Saturday. Sadly thats the point of the storm that will most likely effect us. We are supposed to have thunder storms all week. Anyway the news says that in 36 hours Hurricane Bill should be a class 4 major hurricane. We are just gonna hope that all it does is give us some huge waves to go play in. On the map our island is the highest north next to the Florida panhandle (as I've read its called in a trillion weather forecasts. Just want to be accurate!)

Any way remember us and all the other islanders in your prayers! And most likely we'll all get to our vacations and other destinations safely and on time. I hate to be late. (No really I hate tardiness. Why can't people just be on time. Its not that hard. And it is so so rude to keep people waiting especially if you knew you were going to be late and didn't even call.) Sorry thats my rant for this post. I've been getting annoyed about that quite a bit lately. and now that its out in the universe maybe I can get over it and people will start being on time.

By the way, for those of you who didn't know. Steve and I are going home for 2 weeks. 1 in Colorado and one in Utah. And then for good measure I think I might just stay in Utah for another week or 2. It'll be fun to see friends again. and breaking up the semester is always good. So for those of you who happen to be where we're headed see ya soon! So excited to get there.

Kool-Aid

I advance I apologize for the random topic. I love juice and I always have and sometimes water just doesn't do it for me. And holy carps it is expensive here. So instead I started buying Kool-Aid which is also quite tasty. But ya know what, Kool-Aid is always a winner. I've discovered that just because you like a fruit or the way it smells doesn't mean that its artificially a good flavor. For example I have discovered that Tangerine, mango, strawberry, black cherry and jamaica punch and a whole bucket of other flavors are terrible. They actually make me want to die before drinking them. I'd always assumed that if Kool-Aid made it a flavor then it was gonna be good. My family grew up with those awesome cups and the pitcher that you can redeem with Kool-Aid packets. Anyway my main thought was that always sticking with the basic flavors is good. Orange and grape and lemonade can't go wrong, but creativity beyond that is usually disgusting. Oh and off brands that are supposed to be just as good usually never are. So I hope this has been very educational for everyone. I certainly learned tons maybe more than Steve in medical school is learning!

Celebrating 26 Years of Steve

This is the celebration of a whole s6 years of Steve. Now its true that I've been present for only about a year and a half, but hey 26 years is awesome no matter how much of it I got to take part in. So the hard part about medical school and birthdays is that they don't take kindly to working around your birthday plans. How rude is it that they put a practical exam on his day. And another mini exam 2 days later. So Steve had to take his test and then try to study on his birthday. We did do our best to have fun. I decorated the apartment while he was sleeping. and of course it had half fallen down when he saw it, but it was still cool. And then I picked him up and we went out for lunch and ice cream and just hung out for a bit at Port Lucaya. I sent him back to studying and then went home to make cupcakes and dinner.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! HAPPY STEVE DAY!
The cupcakes were so we could take our friends at school a treat kinda like in elementary school. It was kinda fun giving all the half dazed students cupcakes so they could shove more info into their already full heads for a few more hours. I did put candles in a cupcake and sang to him. Then back to studying. But we got to come home earlier to talk to his fam and then we played darts for a while. By the way I got him a magnetic dartboard so that is what we were using for darts. I was really tempted to draw a donkey on a giant piece of carboard and make him play pin the tail on the donkey. But then I remember that I'm not in elementary school anymore and even though kids get a kick out of it. he might give me a pity laugh but then it would be like ok lets move on.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! HAPPY STEVE DAY!

I was thinking of kids when I hug these balloons in the hall but I still new he'd enjoy them, cause lets face it Steve is definitely still a kid.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! HAPPY STEVE DAY!

This last pic is just grand. This is my favorite Steve face. Maybe sometime I'll post a bunch of random ones and let ya'll decide your favorites. Hint hint I think I will!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! HAPPY STEVE DAY!
I think maybe this should be an annual holiday. Maybe every day on August 10th we'll celebrate!

Eww I know.

I know its gross but I wanted to show just how bad that burn from the scooter was. I love seeing battle wounds like black eyes after the fact. of course it looks much worse now than it did before, but its on the mend, sorta. I guess if unbelievable stingin' means its healing I'm on the way. Luckily I'm married to a future doctor and constantly in the vicinity of other future doctors. all sorts of useful info leaks out. Especially since everyone sees it cause shorts and skirts are the main wardrobe here. Anyway if it grosses you out just say pass on the pic and move on cause I pretty much have and who really likes to dwell.

Steve's on the Dean's List!

So Steve made the Dean's List and that is so exciting. It really is an amazing achievement. In order to be on the Dean's list you have to get straight A's for 2 semesters and then keep above a B. There were only 12 people in the 3rd and 4th semesters in the Bahamas who were on the Dean's List. So Congratulations Steve this amazing. It also made us realize how great it is to be here in the Bahamas. It's really nice to be in a small group of Students. It is so much easier to make friends when you only see a small number of people on campus all the time. We have friends and I actually know people who are students that aren't in the branch. We love it! Steve study's in these tiny room on campus with between 5 and 8 other students and they chat and study together. Its just great all around here.

We all got apple bubbly and the faculty and spouses got to toast the students. It's cool honoring them all formal like. (Note to self and anyone else: the floor isn't the greatest place for putting a full glass. 2 cups were tipped over and yes one was mine.)

How fancy the smart people get their names on a cake, never mind the weird hole in the frosting. So so exciting that Steve got to eat his name. He's soooo lucky. I'm glad sometimes he humors the random moments I have to capture.
